HISTORY
OF LONDON FALCONS FOOTBALL CLUB
Season
2006/07...
Falcons Football Club was formed on
June 4th, 2006 by Craig Randall. Gathering
people from several different means,
he was able to gather 13 people for
the first ever Falcons kickaround session
on June 4th in Fairfields, Kingston
Upon Thames. Due to the success that
day, the club was able to build on that
success and grow as a club.
The club had their first match on Wednesday,
August 9th, 2006 in Barnes vs Kew 7's
FC. Some of the players were training
in Barnes and came across a few of the
Kew 7 players who insisted on a friendly.
The manager Craig Randall was able to
put together a team in the short few
days. And for the first time ever, players
were able to represent the club.
The game was won by Kew 7's 7-1, but
Falcon's scored their first ever goal
through James Edeki who actually started
his first game as a central defender,
then went to play midfield, then striker
( a position he was to hold from then
on).
A week later Falcons played their first
home game against fellow new comers
(another of Randall's antics) Roman's
Athletic. The Falcon's ran out 3-2 winner's
with James Edeki hitting the first ever
Falcon hat trick.
We owe great thanks to our friends Stonewall
Football Club for kindly donating
their kits to us to use whilst we find
out feet. We got no less than four different
kits.
A few other friendlies took place before
December vs Nottingham Ball Bois (won
3-2), vs Leicester Wildecats (won 5-1),
vs Brighton Bandits (lost 4-2) and vs
London Titans (yes, another of Randall's
creations! but we lost this one 4-3,
ouch!) The Falcon XI teams also played
a few friendlies, beating Romans twice
and loosing to London Leftfooters.
The first ever league match was against
Stonewall in the L.U.F.L
(league formed by Randall, surprise!)
during February. There had been a couple
of games postponed due to bad pitch
conditions after a couple of months
of awful weather.
The game ended 2-0 to Stonewall though
the Falcons did go onto get revenge
at home returning the favour 2-1, the
winner coming in this game from Kieran
Evans. The victories against Romans
home and away helped Falcons to second
place behind GFC Bournemouth. The Falcons
had lost both the games vs Bournemouth
3-2 and 4-3 and made the GFSN champions
work hard to get the victories.
Other events during the season include
the London Tournament For All in Regents
Park, an event hosted by the legendary
London
Leftfooters. The Falcons played
well, beating Blaze, Leftfooters and
Dublin before loosing out to GFC Bournemouth
in the Quarter Finals. The tournament
was attended by teams across the country
and a few international teams as well.
The club's success did not go unknown,
within several weeks after the season
ended, the club were officially confirmed
to enter into the G.F.S.N National League
for season 2007-08.
And during the close season, club captain
and vice captain were appointed by Pride
to host the Pride 5-a-side tournament
in Wembley Goals Centre. Falcons again
proved themselves worthy by fielding
FOUR teams, three of those reached the
quarter finals and one of those reaching
the semi finals where they lost on penalties
to Stonewall. The eventual winners were
Village Manchester who beat Stonewall
3-1 in the final. Falcons finished fourth
place loosing 1-0 to arch rivals London
Titans in the 3rd and 4th place game.
Season 2007/08...
The close season brought a few changes
to the club set up. Coaches Dan Walton
and Tom Sobel stepped down though both
with means to carry on playing. Chris
Maughan took up the reigns to coach
the team.
Soon after the club captain Tom Price
stood down from his role to take up
the position of club chairman. Ian Kehoe
became the new captain, a role he is
expected to excel in. Gary Britnell
took up Kehoes vacant position and is
now the clubs sponosrship and events
manager.
The
new season saw Falcons take on their
arch rivals London Titans in the first
GFSN game at Old Deer Park. Thanks to
goals from James Edeki, Chris Maughan,
Tom Price and Rob Hyde we ran out 4-1
winners. The Falcons carried on their
good start by beating Nottingham Ball
Bois and Village Manchester away.
In
the GNL Cup Falcons got past Birmingham
Blaze after going 2-0 down with 2 JP
Kessler goals, then with 3 goals from
Gary Britnell, James Edeki and Sam Elliott
in 12 minutes we won 3-2.
The Quarter Finals vs Brighton Bandits
was expected to be a close affair, but
the team went in at the break 7-0 up.
The game was eventually won 8-0.
