London Unity Football League Cup,
Preliminary Round, 2nd Leg
Sunday 5th October 2008
The gutsy Falcons made it through to the semi-finals
of the LUL Cup after getting the draw they needed in east
London.
Captain Jamie Okaro struck 20 minutes from time to level
the scores on the day – but handed the visitors a
6-4 quarter final aggregate victory.
Andy Grace could even afford to miss a late penalty as Sam
Elliott’s side dug deep on Hackney Marshes.
With the Falcons without seven of the players that helped
them see of Stonewall in the Unity League the week before,
the manager was just thrilled to get the job done.
Elliott said: “The message was simple before the match.
“The weather was awful, the journey was worse and
the injuries were stacking up. I told the players all I
wanted from them was to be into the semi-final. I wanted
a result by hook or by crook and we pulled it off.
“I am thrilled with every one of the Falcon players
– we’ll use the three-week break now to iron
out a few issues and we’ll be raring to go for a busy
but vital November.”
